On July 31, the Medical Association of Atlanta held its Annual Meeting where guests gathered to socialize, dine and enjoy the Atlanta History Center.
During dinner, Randy Rizor, MAA’s outgoing president, spoke about the MAA’s work over the past year. One of the primary accomplishments was the introduction of LifeBridge. While physicians frequently serve as counselors to their patients, physicians rarely have someone to turn to, concerning their counseling needs. So, MAA launched LifeBridge, a physician wellness program, to provide physicians with the mental health support and counseling services they deserve.
The new president, Dr. Ali R. Rahimi, was introduced during the MAA meeting. A practicing Cardiologist with the Southeast Permanente Medical Group and Kaiser Permanente Georgia, Dr. Rahimi has served on the MAA Board of Directors since 2013. He also served on the Medical Association of Georgia Foundation Board of Trustees from 2014 to 2021 and was elected to the American Medical Association House of Delegates in October 2017. Dr. Rahimi received his Medical Doctorate from the Medical College of Georgia and obtained a Master of Public Health, with a focus in Health Policy and Management, from Emory University. His Internal Medicine internship and residency were completed at Yale University followed by a Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School.
At the MAA 2021 Annual Meeting, Dr. Rahimi announced the 2021-2022 initiative, Medicine and the Arts. The initiative kicks off with deals for the High Museum, an ASO Classical Series Concert, and Alliance Coke Stage Production, and a Culture Pass to encompass all three opportunities. MAA members may purchase tickets through the Woodruff Art Center website here.
Dr. Rahimi will be joined on next year’s Executive Committee by president-elect, Dr. Fonda Mitchell (The Southeast Permanente Medical Group); treasurer, Dr. John Johnson (West Atlanta Internal Medicine); and secretary Dr. Cody McClatchey (Piedmont Internal Medicine, P.C.). Dr. Rizor will continue to serve on the Executive Committee as chairman of the board.
