V.K. Puppala, M.D., Founder & Chairman of Comprehensive Spine & Pain, has opened new locations for the interventional pain practice in Riverdale, Marietta, and Duluth. The practice, founded in 2016, has existing state-licensed pain clinics in Sandy Springs, Decatur, Lithia Springs and Villa Rica, and two state-of-the-art licensed ambulatory surgery centers in Sandy Springs and Villa Rica.
Comprehensive Spine & Pain’s mission is to focus on treating the underlying source of painful conditions while minimizing or avoiding the need for addictive medications that simply mask the symptoms. The three new locations will help expand Comprehensive Spine & Pain’s reach to better service patients in Clayton, Cobb, Gwinnett, and adjacent counties and accommodate the increased demand for non-opioid treatment alternatives due to heightened recognition of the opioid pandemic by patients and prescribers alike.
Double-board certified anesthesiology pain specialist Dr. Puppala serves as medical director for Comprehensive Spine & Pain and its affiliated ambulatory surgery centers. Dr. Puppala graduated from the Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy and University of Illinois before attending the Washington University School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree. Dr. Puppala completed an anesthesiology residency followed by pain fellowship training at Northwestern University before moving to the Atlanta metro area. Dr. Puppala has served on the Board of Directors for the Cobb County Medical Society, Medical Association of Georgia, and Georgia Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. Dr. Puppala has also been appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Medical College of Georgia and named to the Editorial Board of Pain Physician.
As with all Comprehensive Spine & Pain offices, the newest locations in Riverdale, Marietta, and Duluth specialize in individualized diagnosis and treatment for a range of painful conditions, including neck pain, back pain, joint pain, headaches, abdominal pain, pelvic pain, and neuropathic pain. Dr. Puppala supervises each location and personally performs all procedures at the Villa Rica and Sandy Springs surgery centers six days a week, Monday through Saturday.
Dr. Puppala focuses on effective continuous treatment plans with an emphasis on non-surgical approaches to pain management, including epidural steroid injections for radicular pain due to herniated discs, nerve blocks & radiofrequency ablation for axial facet-mediated neck and back pain, spinal cord stimulation & intrathecal pumps for intractable neuropathic pain, and kyphoplasty for vertebral compression fractures.
In addition to these conventional treatments, Dr. Puppala also specializes in offering more unique treatments such as sphenopalatine ganglion blocks for intractable headaches, biacuplasty to thermally ablate annular tears, percutaneous discectomy to decompress contained disc herniations without incisions or stitches, and minimally invasive lateral-approach posterior instrumented spinal fusions. Dr. Puppala particularly excels in minimally invasive outpatient treatment of thoracic disc herniations, which are otherwise difficult to treat without a painful thoracotomy incision, lung deflation, and lengthy postoperative recovery with chest tubes.
Dr. Puppala offers cutting-edge regenerative medicine techniques including Wharton Jelly allograft injections to treat degenerative discs & joints, annular tears, meniscal tears, labral tears, and rotator cuff tears. He also offers Fluid Flow amniotic fluid injections, which are now approved by Medicare to treat soft tissue injuries, tears, and degenerative conditions.
Comprehensive Spine & Pain also specializes in treating bariatric patients, and its affiliated surgery centers possess specialized equipment to accommodate patients weighing up to 500 lbs.
Comprehensive Spine & Pain accepts all major medical insurances including Aetna, Anthem/Blue Cross, Cigna, Humana, and United Healthcare, in addition to attorney liens, Workers Compensation, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid plans. The practice also offers substantial self-pay discounts for payments rendered at the time of service and accepts self-payments for percutaneous discectomies and regenerative medicine techniques such as Wharton Jelly allograft injections.
The interventional pain practice offers both face-to-face and telemedicine consultations, and weekend hours are available each Saturday if desired. Referrals can be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, faxed to (404) 393-1611, or texted to the main office number at (770) 627-7246. Patient self-referrals are also welcome.
Dr. Puppala is also pleased to offer complimentary epidural injections, nerve ablations, percutaneous discectomies, and regenerative injections to other physicians who require care as a professional courtesy – please contact Dr. Puppala personally at email@example.com or via text at (847) 340-7215 for a complimentary MRI review if a physician is interested in this option.
