Cardiac and thoracic surgeons Alexander G. Justicz, MD, and David A. Langford, MD, recently completed four successful cardiact surgeries over a period of less than 48 hours at Gwinnett Medical Center’s Strickland Heart Center. With over 35 years of experienced combined, Justicz and Langford are the lead surgeons at the new heart center.
Dr. Justicz, an employee of the newly-formed Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeons – Gwinnett Medical Group, is board certified in thoracic surgery.
Dr. Langford is board certified in thoracic surgery. An affiliate with the hospital system for nearly two years, Dr. Langford served GMC in an administrative capacity as the medical director for cardiovascular surgery. He was highly involved in the development of GMC’s open heart surgery program.
Three of the four recent cases involved coronary bypass surgery. The fourth case was unexpected. As the patient was arriving at GMC, she went into cardiac arrest.
“We quickly stabilized the patient, who is now due for follow-up cardiac procedures,” said Dr. Justicz. “However, if the open heart surgery program were not here, the results could have been less favorable.”
