Douglas Murphy, MD was named chairman of the Saint Joseph’s Heart and Vascular Institute (SJHVI) at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.
“I’m very excited to lead this team comprised of some of the most talented interventional radiologists, cardiologists, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons in the country,” Dr. Murphy says. “We will continue to focus on expanding existing programs and acquiring new technologies which maximize therapeutic efficacy while minimizing invasiveness. I am looking forward to broadening the involvement of physician leaders in this effort and offering patients integrated, comprehensive care from prevention to clinical research.”
Dr. Murphy was offered the Chairmanship of the SJHVI as part of a long and distinguished career as one of the nation’s most prominent cardiothoracic surgeons. He has been a cardiac surgeon at Saint Joseph’s for more than 20 years and has been chief of cardiothoracic surgery for the last ten years. A longtime proponent of minimally-invasive cardiac surgery, Dr. Murphy has become one of the most experienced robotic heart surgeons in the world. Dr. Murphy will remain active in performing; researching and teaching robotic heart surgery.
